  The 3rd Annual
Summit Golf Classic
On Monday, June 22nd, 2009, The Summit Counseling Center hosted its “3rd Annual Summit Golf Classic” at the Country Club of the South in Johns Creek, Georgia. The tournament was a rousing success with 126 golfers enjoying the sunshine, a championship course, and the opportunity to support a worthy cause! The Summit Counseling Center is a non-profit counseling center providing professional counseling that integrates the insights of the behavioral sciences and the wisdom of the Christian faith. The tournament raised over $35,000 to underwrite the services of The Summit Counseling Center and the Client Assistance Fund--a fund designed to make counseling affordable for lower income clients or those in crisis.

For the second year in a row, the tournament was presented by KeyWorth Bank, a community bank headquartered in Johns Creek, Georgia. Jim Pope, founding President and CEO of KeyWorth Bank, is also a Board Member of The Summit Counseling Center. Executive Director, Rev. David Smith, explained that “the support of KeyWorth Bank has been invaluable to the success of this tournament! Most non-profits are facing a real uphill challenge in this economy and many of our clients have less income to afford counseling—leaving us with a real gap between contributions and need. This strong support by leaders in the business community insures that we can meet the needs of people who count on us for help.” Neil Stevens, Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer of KeyWorth Bank, was on hand to start the tournament and announce the opening of KeyWorth’s latest office in Sugarloaf. KeyWorth Bank currently has offices in Johns Creek, Alpharetta, and Duluth.

The tournament began with an entertaining show by Professional Long Driver and Golf Entertainer, Rocky “Rockstar” Shipes from Cumming, who showed golfers every imaginable way to hit a long drive. A boxed lunch was provided by Shane’s Rib Shack and players enjoyed a Country Club of the South buffet featuring skirt steak for dinner. The awards for 1st Place Low Gross went to Don Barden, Tim Arnoult, Mike Keller, and J Laschinger. The awards for 1st Place Low Net went to Randy Hawley, Frank Shmays, Phil Stabell, and Rob Robinson. The awards for these 1st place winners included $100 Pro Shop credit at the Country Club of the South and individual trophies for each player. Numerous other awards and raffle prizes were provided for players.
